The flamenco cajon is an evolution of the Peruvian cajon to which some strings (or bordones) have been incorporated that provide a very particular "gritty" sound. It was introduced in Spain by Rubén Dantas, a percussionist who worked with Paco de Lucía and who incorporated, in his day, some novelties in flamenco percussion. Every time they are becoming more sophisticated. Nowadays, almost all incorporate some way of adjusting the tension of the strings.
