The Coimbra model Portuguese fado guitar is a traditional instrument with 12 strings arranged in 6 double courses. Characterized by its teardrop-shaped sound box and teardrop-shaped or "volute" headstock, it offers a deep, melancholic tone, ideal for playing Coimbra fado. Its lower tuning than the Lisbon model allows for a more solemn sound.
