The oval frame of laminated beechwood is fitted with a membrane which, together with the resonating block, produces a prolonged, soft tone. Sansula Renaissance is a wonderful instrument based on the African kalimba. Starting from this original instrument, Hokema has placed the kalimba suspended from a membrane that has the effect of extend the duration of the sound and amplifying the sound in a natural way. By zooming in and out of the bottom of the Sansula to a solid surface, a curious wa-wa effect can be produced.
The Renaissance model differs from the basic model in that the membrane is made with a super resistant membrane from the Remo brand, which is usually used as a percussion instrument head, maintaining the loudness practically 100% compared to the basic model.
